Recalling Scots mourning for the thousands fallen at Flodden Field on 9 Sep
1513, Flowers of the Forest is the name of a pipe tune and a later poem, and
now is traditionally used for a roll of clan members who have gone on before.
The following appeared in Litir à Clann (Family Newsletter), from the
Association President, R.M. "Mac" Sinclair of Kingston, Ontario.

LCol. John MacKay Sinclair
From Bradenton, Florida, notice that LCol. John MacKay Sinclair
had died April 6th following a massive embolism-type of attack
on the golf course three days before. Col. John was a native of
the New Glasgow area in Nova Scotia and was a very strong supporter
of the Clan Sinclair Associations. He attended The Royal Military
College of Canada and served with distinction in the Canadian Army
(Artillery) during World War II and in peacetime until his retirement.
He was a long-time, accomplished piper who was ready to play his pipes
to add a truly Scottish air to any occasion. He will be sadly missed
as we gather in his native area this August!!
Herbert G. Sinclair
From Peterboro (Bridgenorth), a note from John Sinclair to inform us
that his uncle, Herbert G. Sinclair of Carleton Place, Ont., had died
on January 10th, 1987, at age 96. Herbert was a descendant of the Sinclairs
of Scotch Corners and lived a very active life in his chosen community.
He was a clothier and dry goods merchant.
Alexander F. Sinclair
From Toronto: A letter from Robin & Susan Sinclair to inform us
that "My father, Alexander F. Sinclair (Gowan Ave., Toronto) died
suddenly of a heart attack, May 8, 1987, while on board the Queen
Elizabeth II cruise ship en route to Southampton, Eng. He came to Canada
in 1948.... settled in Edmonton... moved to Toronto two years later.
Retired from Air Canada, he travelled extensively. He is buried in Perth,
Scotland. He was very proud of his new grandson, Jeremy Stewart, who was
born in Toronto, April 10, 1987...."

Rev. Dr. Donald M. Sinclair
From Jane Williams at Halifax, the sad news that our esteemed Honorary
member, The Rev. Dr. Donald M. Sinclair has died. Those who attended
our Gathering at Pictou Lodge in August will remember that this fine old
gentleman presented our guest speaker, Lister Sinclair, with his copy
of St Clairs of the Isles, a very old and rare book about
the St Clairs (Sinclair Clan).
The obituary from a Halifax newspaper:"SINCLAIR, Rev. Donald
Maclean - 88, ... Halifax, died Saturday in Camp Hill Hospital, Halifax.
Born in Prince Edward Island, he was a son of the late Rev. Alexander
Maclean and Mary Ann Sinclair. He was minister at Fort Massey Church for
many years and subsequently minister emeritus at that church.
"Educated in Pictou County schools, he received a B.A. from
Dalhousie University and an M.A. in 1924. He graduated from Pine Hill
Divinity College and did graduate work in New College, Edinburgh. He was
ordained in 1924 in Linden Presbyterian Church and served the
Linden-Northport charge. He later served at Valleyfield United Church,
Prince Edward Island (1928-1936), Trinity United Church, Sydney (1936-1948)
and Fort Massey (1948-1969). He retired in 1969. From 1940-45, he served as
chaplain in the Royal Canadian Navy, with service in Londonderry, Ireland.
In 1958 he was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration.
"His first language was Gaelic, and he preached in Gaelic and taught
the language all of his life.
"He was past president of the Maritime Conference of the United
Church of Canada, Royal Nova Scotia historical Society and North British
Society. He was a former member of the board of governors of Dalhousie
university and the alumni board. He was a long-time member of Halifax
Commercial Club. He became a Master Mason in Pugwash in 1926 and a Grand
Master in 1959; he received his 33rd degree in the Scottish Rite in 1969
and the Order of Merit in 1986. He received honorary degrees from Pine Hill,
Dalhousie and St. Francis Xavier universities. He was a member of the Royal
Canadian Legion and Royal United Services Institute of Nova Scotia.
"He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Baird Jones; three
daughters, Margaret James, Halifax; Janet Hartry, Waterloo, Ont.; Sheila
Rofihe, Pleasantville; three sons, John, San Rafael, Calif.; Alasdair,
Halifax; Donald, Canberra, Australia; 14 grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren."

Dr. Jonathan Sinclair
Dr. Jonathan Sinclair of Balliol St., Toronto (14 Feb 88) wrote on
several occasions to reiterate his interest in the Association and our
newsletters. In addition to his wife, a daughter, Mary Jane of Ottawa,
survives.
Maude (Sinclair) Liston
Mrs. Maude (Sinclair) List on Venice, Florida (Oct 87) is survived by
another faithful member of our Canadian Association, Mrs. Margaret Butler,
Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, USA.
George Sinclair
Mr. George Sinclair, Warrender Ave., Islington (2 July 88) came
to Canada from Scotland at age 19 and lived in Lakefield before moving
to Toronto. He was on the staff of Kodak Canada for many years and retired
in 1975. Surviving him are his wife, Violet; a son, Paul of Scarborough;
and a daughter, Ruth (Spreggs) of Denver, Col. USA.
On behalf of the Clan Sinclair Association Canada, we extend
sincere sympathy to the families of our deceased clan members.

Cecil Hubert Sinclair
Cecil Hubert Sinclair died in Renfrew, Ont., on 24 Oct 88. Cecil was
born in Ottawa in 1908, but spent most of his life in Renfrew. He had been
a welder with Ontario Hydro and retired after 40 years with that firm. His
son Ronald is very active in our Association, being Vice-Pres. Western
Ontario Region.
We extend to the members of Cecil Sinclair's family our sincere sympathy
at the loss of this fine old gentleman.
